Long Beach Expo Visitors See United States Mint’s Reagan Coins Designs

(Long Beach, California) – Visitors on the closing day of the February 2016 Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp & Sports Collectible Expo received a previously announced numismatic treat. Representatives of the United States Mint displayed the just-announced selected designs for the upcoming Ronald Reagan Presidential dollar and Nancy Reagan First Spouse gold coin.
“The official unveiling ceremony was conducted at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California on Saturday morning, February 6. However, as soon as that ceremony ended, Mint employees attending the Long Beach Expo promptly set up a display of the designs that will be used for the new commemorative coins,” said Cassi East, President of the Long Beach Expo.
“At about 12:30 on Saturday afternoon, we made a public address announcement to tell everyone on the convention floor about the surprise display. Visitors to the show were quite happy to be among the first to see which artworks were selected for the coin designs,” explained East.
“All of us are delighted the United States Mint gave everyone at the Long Beach Expo the opportunity to see the historic design selections as soon as possible after the official unveiling,” added East.
The United States Mint had a booth at the February 4 – 6 Long Beach Expo to showcase and sell the Mint’s latest collector coins and medals. James Pressley, the Mint’s Retail Sales Manager, made arrangements with other Mint officials to display the Ronald and Nancy Reagan coin designs at the show, located south of Los Angeles, as soon as the official ceremony ended 70 miles away in Simi Valley, north of Los Angeles.
February 6 was selected as the date for the unveiling of the selected designs because it was the 105th anniversary of the late President’s birth.
According to the official announcement from the Mint, both the Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan coins will be featured in a variety of products available for purchase from the United States Mint during 2016.  For additional information, visit the Mint’s website at www.usmint.gov.
