Strong Market Boosts September ’07 Long Beach Expo

(Long Beach, California) – Increasing gold bullion prices, strong auctions during and prior to the show, and multi-million dollar public displays of early United States coins combined to make a successful Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo, September 27 – 29, 2007.
“The price of gold climbed more than $10 an ounce to over $740 during the show, and that gave another big psychological boost to the continuing, robust coin market. The official auctions of U.S. and world coins and bank notes by Heritage Auction Galleries generated $25 million in sales, and dealers on the bourse floor reported very good retail business,” said Ronald J. Gillio, Expo General Chairman.
Total attendance during the three-day show held in the Long Beach, California Convention Center was 4,810 including dealers and the general public.
Special displays were presented by Monaco Rare Coin (unique and finest known early American coins); Stack’s (Western Americana from the John J. Ford Jr. Collection); Professional Coin Grading Service (highlights of the PCGS Grading Set); and Certified Assets Management (the finest known 1907 Ultra High Relief Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle). One of the coins in the Monaco exhibit, the finest known pewter 1776 Continental dollar, was featured in a prominent, illustrated story in the Long Beach Press-Telegram newspaper.
Educational programs were conducted during the show by a dozen collectors’ organizations and by eBay, an official sponsor of the Long Beach Expo. On-site coin grading was offered by PCGS and Numismatic Guaranty Company, also sponsors of the event.
The next Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo will be conducted February 14 – 16, 2008. For additional information call (562) 436-3636. Online: www.LongBeachShow.com.
